McBain Third Grade

Christmas Program   Students should arrive in their "Sunday best" at 6:45 on December 15th. Children will have to stay with you until 6:45. After their performance, they will be released to your supervision. Thank you.  Gift Exchange    Mrs. Freeland's, Mrs. O'Malley's and Mrs. Brinks's classes have had students draw the name of a classmate to purchase a small gift for. Please keep it in the $3 to $5 range. Mrs. Vandervelde's class is to bring in a gift for a student of the same gender, $3-$5. Thank you!   Delayed Start and Break    Please remember Dec. 15th is a delayed start. Christmas parties will take place on Dec. 18th in the afternoon. Friday the 19th will be the sing along and movie day. Christmas Break will be Dec. 22-Jan. 2.   Native American Dwellings    Please remember...these dwellings are due January 12th. We look forward to showing them to each other and the second grade classes.

Native American Dwelling Project A note about this project will be coming home with your child on Monday, November 18th.  We have been studying the Native American tribes that lived in Michigan.  At the end of the unit your child will be writing a report about one of the tribes.  They will need to construct a dwelling that their tribe lived in as their homework project. Delayed Start November 17th is our delayed start.  Please remember that school starts promptly at 10:00 AM.  Breakfast will not be served that day. Thanksgiving Break There will be No School on November 27th and November 28th.  Don't forget about the Craft Show on November 29th.  This will run from 9am-3pm. Book-It Calendars November calendars will be due at the end of the month.  The goal for this month is 250 minutes.

Title One Night Don't forget to hand in your RSVP for our Title One Night on Tuesday, October 28th.  These are due on Friday, October 24th.  Pizza will be served from 5:30 PM -6:00 PM.  Activities in the  classrooms will follow from 6:00-7:00 PM. Report Cards Report cards will be coming home with your child on Wednesday, November 5th.  Parent teacher conferences will be on Thursday, November 6th.  Please be looking for your conference time soon. No School Monday, November 3rd- Teacher Inservice day Thursday, November 6th- Parent Teacher Conferences  Halloween Party The parties will start at 1PM.  Please send your child's costume to school.  They will be changing into their costume at 12:45.

Parents, Progress Reports came home today. Unfortunately, they were printed incorrectly. You received a progress report with semester total grades. These grades are lower than the quarter grades that your child has received so far. Progress reports are being reprinted and will be sent home on Monday. Thank you for understanding! EARBUDS We are using our iPads more and more each day. It helps our students if they are able to hear what they are working on when using their iPads. We have some headphones/earbuds, but not enough for each child. If you can, would you please send in a labeled set of headphones/earbuds for your child? Thank you! PROGRESS REPORTS Progress reports will go home Friday, October 10, 2014. Please be looking for them in their child's homework folder.  This will give you an opportunity to discuss your child's progress with them. BOOK-IT The Book-It reading calendar went home with your child last week. Reading at home is so important! Please be sure to set aside some time to read with your child and help them meet their monthly reading goal. If this goal is met, your child will earn a free personal pan pizza certificate for Pizza Hut! It is important that any missing/late work or fix-it tickets are returned by next Monday, October 6, 2014, so that we have time to modify the grades in PowerSchool prior to our deadline. We would like to stress the importance of making sure that Home Links and other assignments are returned on time. If they are not, your student looses points. If assignments aren't turned in at all, they become zero grades. Third grade is the beginning of your child's grading "career," and as such, we want it to be positive. Snacks Please send healthy snacks with your child for snack time.

Delayed Start:  Our first delayed start Monday occurs on Monday, September15. Class begins at at 9:57 am. Please be sure that your child does not arrive to school prior to 9:45 am or later than 9:57 am. Breakfast will not be served that day. Spelling: Spelling will begin next Monday, September 15. Please check your child's folder to find their list.

Welcome to third grade! It's getting to be time to purchase school supplies, so we thought it would be a good idea to post our school supply list. You will find it at the end of this blog post.
